M-NASR and Special Olympics
M-NASR proudly serves Region B covering the counties of Lake, McHenry, and North Suburban Cook. Special Olympics Illinois has 11 regions throughout the state with each region responsible for providing Olympic sports within the communities they serve.
Special Olympic Sports offered at M-NASR:
Volleyball – late Summer/Fall
Basketball – Fall/Winter
Track & Field – Spring
Aquatics – Winter
Power Lifting – Winter/Spring
Bowling – Year round
Softball – Spring/Summer
Golf – Spring/Summer/Fall
To be eligible to compete in Special Olympic sports:
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Identified by an agency or professional as having one of the following conditions: intellectual disabilities, cognitive delays as measured by formal assessment or significant learning or vocational problems due to cognitive delay that require or have required specially designed instruction.
Special Olympics Young Athletes Program
Children ages 2-7 with intellectual disabilities, along with their siblings and peers, are introduced to the world of sports. This program improves physical, cognitive, and social functions. Activities include foundational skills, walking, running, balance, jumping, and trapping, catching, throwing, striking, kicking and advanced skills.
