Help us celebrate Lisa Barrera, IPRA TR Professional of the Year

M-NASR is delighted to share that our Superintendent of Recreation, Lisa Barrera, has been named Professional of the Year by the Illinois Park and Recreation Association Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Section.

The award was presented during the TR Section meeting at the 2026 IPRA/IAPD Soaring to New Heights Conference in late January and recognizes Lisa’s exceptional leadership, innovation and unwavering dedication to therapeutic recreation.

Throughout her career, Lisa has been a passionate advocate for inclusive programming and meaningful opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Her vision has shaped and strengthened M-NASR’s recreation programs, ensuring participants of all ages have access to enriching experiences that foster independence, confidence and connection.

Colleagues across Illinois know Lisa not only as a knowledgeable and forward-thinking leader, but also as a generous mentor who lifts up others in the profession. Under her guidance, M-NASR has continued to grow its impact, build strong community partnerships and remain at the forefront of special recreation services.

“Our entire organization celebrates this well-deserved recognition,” said M-NASR’s Executive Director, Trisha Breitlow. “Lisa continually raises the bar for impactful programming and makes a lasting difference in the lives of the participants and families we serve. We are incredibly fortunate to have her guiding our recreation department.”

Please join us in congratulating Lisa on this outstanding achievement. We are so proud to call her a leader, colleague and friend–and we look forward to seeing the continued impact of her work in the years ahead.
